FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Governor Ralph Northam today announced that M.C. Dean, Inc., a leading electrical design-build and systems integration firm for mission-critical organizations, will invest $25.1 million to incorporate a new product line at its fabrication and distribution facility in Caroline County. Virginia successfully competed with several states for the project, which will create 100 new jobs.
“With over 1,500 employees and a 70-year history in Virginia, M.C. Dean is a valued employer that continues to demonstrate tremendous confidence in the Commonwealth’s business climate and skilled workforce,” said Governor Northam. “The company’s major expansion in Caroline County will help strengthen both the regional economy and Virginia’s growing advanced manufacturing sector, and we thank M.C. Dean for its long-term partnership and reinvestment in the Commonwealth.”
M.C. Dean is headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, and employs more than 3,500 professionals who engineer and deploy automated, secure, and resilient power and technology systems; and deliver the management platforms essential for long-term system sustainability. M.C. Dean began development of its prefabrication facility in Caroline County, Virginia in 2003 and opened the site in 2006. Today, the facility serves as the home for ModularMEP™, M.C. Dean’s product line of large-scale, fully-integrated, modularized power, electronic security and telecom systems and rooms that are engineered, integrated, tested, and pre-commissioned at the center before being transported to project and construction sites across the United States.
“We are proud to celebrate M.C. Dean’s third investment in its fabrication and distribution facility in Caroline County, bringing total job creation to over 200 employees since 2004,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Brian Ball. “Anticipating significant future growth, M.C. Dean originally chose Caroline County for its reasonable land costs and convenient access to customers and suppliers. Nearly 15 years later, this Virginia-headquartered manufacturer continues to expand, and we look forward to the company’s next chapter of growth in the Commonwealth.”
The expansion, which opens this summer, will double the company’s manufacturing capacity to support high-growth, mission-critical customers such as data centers, airports, and healthcare facilities. The site of the expansion was renamed the Caroline County Center for Innovation and Industry and adds more than 220 new acres of ready-to-develop land to support future expansion.
“The Center for Innovation and Industry is a strategic investment to grow our modular production and manufacturing capabilities to meet customer demands for speed to market, improved quality, and more reliable pricing,” said Bill Dean, CEO of M.C. Dean. “We believe that modular delivery is the future of the construction industry, and we’re pleased with our decision to double down on that investment here in our home state of Virginia.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Caroline County to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Northam approved a $500,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to assist Caroline County with the project. The Governor also approved a $250,000 performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment (VIP) program, an incentive that encourages capital investment by existing Virginia companies. Funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP).
“M.C. Dean’s creation of ‘The Caroline County Center for Innovation and Industry’ is a tremendous advancement in Caroline County’s capacity to become a technology employment center in the region,” said Chairman of the Caroline County Board of Supervisors Clay Forehand. “By facilitating the expansion of infrastructure to M.C. Dean’s fabrication site, Caroline is investing in 100 well-paying technology jobs, strengthening the company’s ability to grow its facilities, and enabling the recruitment of allied industries to the site. Caroline County also brings to the table abundance reuse water and unlimited fiber capacity, making us the next location for technology employment and data center investment. We are proud to have a great company like M.C. Dean in our community.”
“M.C. Dean Inc.’s expansion of their ModularMEP™ facility means a $25.1 million investment in our First District community,” said Congressman Rob Wittman. “This creates 100 new jobs, continuing to strengthen our business community in the Commonwealth. Growing our skilled workforce is critical to expanding our advanced manufacturing sector and attracting similar investments. Virginia is one of the top states to do business in the nation, and I look forward to continuing to work with localities and state officials to show that we are open for business.”
“M.C. Dean’s decision to invest over $25 million in Caroline County is affirmation of our outstanding people and business-friendly environment,” said Senator Ryan McDougle. “I am thrilled about the job growth this investment will produce, and I am confident that this is the start of a flourishing partnership between M.C. Dean and the local community.”
“I want to thank M.C. Dean for choosing to invest in the expansion of their facility in Caroline County,” said Delegate Hyland Fowler. “The company’s investment in a new product line represents a much-welcomed boost to our local economy and provides additional employment opportunities for our people. I am confident that M.C. Dean, its employees, and Caroline County will all benefit from this important decision.”
